Higher difficulties have higher penalties for death such as the loss of lives or permanent death. Should the player die while out scavenging, they will suffer a loss of half their inventory which is then marked on the map for later collection. If the player dies during the night, they will wake up in the next morning without receiving any bonuses. Should the player survive the night, they will gain reputation with the trader which can be used to trade for more expensive items.
